When the leaves start falling I think pumpkin! This is one of my fall favorites. I double the recipe and make 4 loaves at a time. This bread is really a dessert with the cheese cake filling. Bring one to a friend as a hostess or Holiday gift. My friend Flo passed this recipe on to me. She was a Real Estate sales person. She would send out recipe cards to promote her business. I’m sure her clients looked forward to her recipe cards in the mail!

Pumpkin Ribbon Bread

Ingredients

  • Filling Ingredients
  • 6 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Dash of salt

  • Bread ingredients
  • 1 can pumpkin
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • Dash of salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 2/3 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Grease two 7 ½ by 3 inch loaf pans.
  • In a medium bowl, beat together all filling ingredients and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix the bread ingredients.
  • Pour ¼ of the bread batter into each greased pan.
  • Next, pour ½ of the filling into each pan and finish by topping the filling in each pan with the rest of your batter.
  • Bake in oven set at 325 degrees for approximately 1 ½ hours.
  • Cool before slicing.

Note

  • This bread dessert looks beautiful sliced and served on a platter. A wonderful substitute for pumpkin pie!
